Dental Implants

Missing teeth significantly impact your daily life. Whether it’s the inability to chew and eat food comfortably, or feeling self-conscious about smiling or talking with gaps between your teeth, missing teeth diminish your confidence.

Dental implants are an excellent solution for replacing one or multiple teeth. They are also as close as you can get to a natural tooth because, unlike other tooth replacement options, they replace both your root and tooth.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?

Tooth implants are unique in that they’re the only replacement option that restores both root and tooth. Here are some other significant advantages they offer.
Natural Look
Dental implants offer the aesthetics of a natural tooth, restoring your smile to health and beauty.
Excellent Longevity
Tooth implants have the potential to last for many years, and in some cases, even a lifetime, with proper care.
Superior Function
You’ll enjoy all the chewing function of a natural tooth with a dental implant since it replaces your root.
Bite Stability
A dental implant restores bite alignment and prevents neighboring teeth from shifting.
Protects the Jawbone
Implants stimulate the bone, which prevents the deterioration that accompanies tooth loss.
A Wise Investment
Because of their excellent longevity, implants are often a wise long-term investment in your smile.

How Dental Implants in Colorado Springs Work

By combining three integral parts —the implant, abutment, and restoration —a dental implant closely mimics a natural tooth.

The biocompatible implant post is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it naturally fuses and integrates with your bone over time through a process called osseointegration. It can take three to six months for the implant to fully fuse with your bone.

Once the implant is completely healed and integrated with the bone, it’s ready to support the restoration. The abutment piece locks the implant and restoration together, creating optimal function.

A custom porcelain crown is the restoration for a single missing tooth. At the same time, two to six dental implants can support a bridge or denture for patients replacing multiple missing teeth or even an entire upper or lower arch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many people worry about pain when considering dental implants. At Mountain Vista Dental, Dr. Carlson uses modern techniques and effective pain management to keep you comfortable throughout the entire process.

What to Expect During a Dental Implant Procedure

  • During the Procedure — We work with a trusted local specialist for dental implant placement. The surgical procedure is done with a strong local anaesthetic, so you won't feel pain during the surgery.
  • After the Surgery — You can expect some mild to moderate discomfort for about 3-7 days after your implant is placed. Dr. Carlson uses gentle, minimally invasive techniques that reduce swelling and pain. You'll receive pain medication chosen explicitly for your needs and medical history to keep you comfortable while you heal.
  • The Healing Period — While your implant bonds with your jawbone over the next 3-6 months, you typically won't feel any discomfort. This healing process happens naturally and painlessly. When it's time to attach the restoration, a few months later, you might feel minor discomfort, but it's brief and manageable.
  • What Patients Say — Our Colorado Springs patients consistently tell us they were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the implant process was. Many say it was much easier than they expected.

Dental Implants Technology

CBCT Cone Beam Technology

We use advanced 3-D imaging technology called CBCT to get a complete picture of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding structures. Think of it like a detailed 3-D map of your mouth that shows us things regular x-rays can't see.

Our CBCT scanner uses much less radiation than traditional CT scans while providing incredibly clear images. Unlike flat x-rays, it creates a three-dimensional view so we can examine your mouth from every angle and see your bones, nerves, and any problem areas.

This detailed imaging enables us to plan treatments such as dental implants, root canals, and oral surgery with greater safety and precision, ultimately leading to better results for you.
