Dental Bonding

At Mountain Vista Dental, we strive to provide our patients with options for restoring their smiles. Dental bonding is a non-invasive and affordable treatment option that restores minor smile flaws, improves chewing function, and provides durability.

Our dentist can typically complete dental bonding, also known as composite veneers, during one visit to Mountain Vista Dental, and the procedure is less expensive than porcelain veneers, which are lab-based.

What Are Some of the Smile Flaws That Dental Bonding Fixes?

Dental bonding can restore many of the same concerns as porcelain veneers, such as:
Broken Teeth
Teeth that are broken or chipped can be restored and reshaped with composite resin material.
Covers Discoloration
Dental bonding can cover stubborn tooth stains or discoloration that doesn’t respond to teeth whitening.
Gaps Between Teeth
Bonding can fill the gaps between teeth for a more symmetric and uniform smile appearance.
Misshapen Teeth
Dental bonding can improve an oddly sized or misshapen tooth for enhanced smile symmetry.
Worn Teeth
Dental bonding can restore a tooth that’s severely worn, which improves appearance and function.

How Does Dental Bonding Work?

During a dental bonding procedure, we use composite resin material to restore several smile concerns. Composite resin is the same material used for tooth-colored fillings, and our dentists can customize it to blend flawlessly with your tooth, thereby complementing the aesthetics of your smile.

Dr. Carlson applies the pliable composite resin material to the tooth to cover or improve flaws. They shape and mold it to fit the tooth without needing to remove tooth enamel, as would be required with a porcelain veneer. Then it’s hardened and cured with a special light. Finally, we shape and polish the bonding to a fine finish that enhances your smile.

With the proper care and routine dental checkups, dental bonding has the potential to last for several years before needing repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental bonding represents a conservative and economically advantageous aesthetic solution for minor dental imperfections. At Mountain Vista Dental, Dr. Carlson frequently recommends this procedure to address discoloration, minor fractures, and spacing between teeth.

The durability of dental bonding depends on multiple factors. While typical longevity ranges from 4 to 8 years, meticulous home care and appropriate functional habits can significantly extend this timeframe. The composite resin material used in bonding procedures, although highly advanced, lacks the inherent durability of porcelain restorations, such as veneers or crowns.

Several variables influence bonding longevity. Front teeth typically maintain bonding integrity longer than molar teeth due to reduced biting forces. Additionally, patients exhibiting habits such as clenching and grinding (bruxism) or those who regularly consume staining agents (coffee, tea, tobacco) may experience accelerated deterioration of bonded surfaces.

What You Can Do to Protect Dental Bonding

To maximize the lifespan of your dental bonding, implement a comprehensive oral hygiene regimen including twice-daily brushing with non-abrasive toothpaste and regular professional teeth cleanings at our Colorado Springs dental office. Avoid using your bonded teeth as tools, and consider wearing a protective night guard if you grind your teeth at night.

Dr. Carlson recommends biannual evaluations to assess bonding integrity. Minor surface repairs can often be performed during routine appointments, potentially extending the functional lifespan of your restoration without necessitating complete replacement.

Learn More about Dental Bonding

While dental bonding may require more frequent renewal than alternative restorative options, many patients appreciate the conservative nature of the treatment, preserving maximum natural tooth structure while delivering excellent aesthetic outcomes.

Dental Bonding Technology

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

We offer nitrous oxide (also called laughing gas) at Mountain Vista Dental to help you feel relaxed during your dental treatment. Dr. Carlson can adjust the gentle mixture of gases you breathe through a small, comfortable mask over your nose.

This safe sedation helps ease dental anxiety or fear, and you'll be able to respond normally. We can customize the amount based on how you're feeling, and the best part is that it works quickly and wears off completely within minutes after your treatment is finished.

You'll be able to drive yourself home and return to your normal activities right away, making it perfect for our Colorado Springs patients who want a stress-free dental experience.
